Best Time for Bird Watching
The Andaman Islands offer bird-watching opportunities throughout the year, but October to April/May is generally the most convenient period because conditions are drier and access to forest trails is easier. Dedicated local birding sources cite October–May, while November–April is often described as the prime dry-season window.
Best Months — October to May
Pleasant conditions, greener landscapes after the rains, and easier access to forests, wetlands and coastal birding locations.
Prime Birding Season — November to April
This is the strongest all-round period for comfortable birding, with drier trails and opportunities to observe both resident/endemic birds and seasonal visitors.
Best Time of Day — Sunrise to around 9:30 AM
Early morning is usually the most productive period. Cooler temperatures and higher bird activity make dawn ideal for forest walks, calls and photography.
Second Best Time — 3:30 PM to Sunset
Late afternoon is another productive window, particularly around wetlands, mangroves and coastal habitats. It can also be suitable for watching birds returning toward evening roosts.
Midday — Generally Less Productive
The hotter middle part of the day is usually quieter for forest birding, so this period is better used for travelling between locations or resting.
Monsoon — June to September
Birdlife is still present and the forests become exceptionally lush, but heavy rainfall, slippery trails and more difficult access can make bird-watching trips less predictable.
Extra Tip — Check the Tide
For shorebirds, mudflats and mangrove birding, tide timing matters. Low to mid tide can expose feeding areas and improve opportunities to observe shorebirds.
